Build Interactive Dashboards with AI/BI Dashboards: No-Code BI

Build interactive dashboards connected to Unity Catalog data—no SQL or code required.

In short

Build interactive dashboards connected to Unity Catalog data—no SQL or code required. AI/BI Dashboards is the unified dashboard builder on Databricks, powered by Unity Catalog governance.

Key takeaways

  • AI/BI dashboards unify visualization library and configuration experience with no-code tools.
  • Data sets and visualizations are bundled with dashboards; filters applied at design time.
  • Dashboard drafts allow collaboration; users share drafts before publishing to other workspace members.
  • Two credential options available: embedded credentials for all viewers or user credentials for secure access.
  • Dashboards automatically resize visualizations; SQL warehouses provide fast, scalable, reliable compute power.
  • System tables enable billing analysis without leaving dashboard; Unity Catalog governs all dashboard data.

Frequently asked questions

What sources can you add to AI/BI dashboards?

You can add tables from Unity Catalog, custom queries, system tables for billing analysis, and external data through federation. Data sets bundle with the dashboard when sharing.

What are the two publishing options for dashboards?

Embedded credentials allow viewers to see dashboards without data access, but may expose data. User credentials require viewers to have access to underlying data and SQL warehouse.

How does Lake View differ from traditional dashboard builders?

Lake View provides simplified design with what-you-see-is-what-you-get, unification with the lakehouse, and governance through Unity Catalog. It's optimized for sharing and distribution.

Can multiple users collaborate on dashboard drafts?

Yes, dashboard drafts can be shared with other workspace users for collaboration. Each user interacts with the dashboard using their own credentials.

0:00hello and welcome my name is Yousef and today I have the pleasure to introduce the public preview of Lake View dashboards and I know the name is pretty cool and but first let's explain what's l view dashboards so Leu dashboards are used to build data visualization to share Data Insights with your team Leu

0:23dashboard contain a new visualization library and a configuration experience and those like you dashboards have two components the data and that's where the users or will Define the data assets that's going to be used uh in this dashboard and those data sets are bundled with the dashboard while sharing

0:45and then we have the canvas and the canvas is where the data analyst will create visualization and construct their dashport and when it comes to uh data sets you can add of course a table in unity Catal you can add a few and you can also add your own query in case you want to customize a specific table and

1:08of course we have a bunch of new visualization dat we can add uh data set filters and the reason of introducing this l view dashboards are the following one first of all you have improved visualizations and optimize for sharing and distribution it's simplified design with what you see is what you get and of course a unification with the lake

1:32housee since everything of course is governed with unity catalog and always keep in mind that the best data warehous is a lake house and of course when it comes to the draft and collaborate on a dashboard so new dashboards of course begins as a draft and of course you can share the draft with other users in your workspace to collaborate and all users

1:55will use their own credentials to interact with data and visualization in uh dashboard TRS but first now let's go and have a look at Lake View so the first thing I will do is go and create uh a SQL Warehouse so I'm going to call it Lake View going to be a serverless of course

2:18we're going to go to a dashboard Lake View create Lake View dashboard so let's rame it getting started with view of course you can see that's the canvas where the data analyst can build

2:40their visualizations and of course you have also the data so let me just select like few and of course you can add tables as I have mentions from in unity catalog or for example can just go here going to use system tables for those who are not familiar with the system tables they are pretty much exciting feature you can leverage uh I'm going to use the

3:03billing and here I'm going to add the usage so this table will be download with uh with my with my dashboard and I can also add my specific query so I already built one so what I did over here I'm just uh encrypting some emails and I'm getting status whether this query uh did fail or

3:28not so let call it usage uh query whether this query failed or not and the type and of course the language use and uh when this happens and of course I'm also using uh I'm encrypting the email of this specific person and now let's go to

3:52the canvas so first of all I can add a specific text over here you know you just it with like few dashboards you can preview this immediately of course you can make sure to uh make it small or large or you have

4:16a bunch variety of options I can also if I want add my first visualizations over here I'm going to call the query so here we can select all the uh different uh visualization you can also add title description but first let's go and specify the uh going to choose Pyar so

4:40here I'm going to count the uh language and and then of course not disect card my B and of course I will use the language of course this will compute my first chart that will be added inside my dashboard of course I can add some title

5:02uh percentage percentage of distribution of the different the of the languages so you can see over here like wide variety of the users are using python uh small numbers are using I mean

5:25SQL then scal and of course R is the smallest uh smallest usage so usage of the different [Music] languages in a specific workspace and of course you see it's

5:47it's resizing whenever for example you add you have in a small space the visualization is resizing of course I can again go and add another visualization I will use again the this one I can use the usage of course I will select I know let say Q name my bad SK SK

6:15name count I'm going to filter this by skew name if you want you can also add let's say uh a specific filter over here so let's say I'm going to filter this by by user and of course I can specify SQ name can add specific title here about

6:39this Q name I'm going to add another visualization over here let's say it's usage then I'm going counter and then the value will be usage quantity and that will be of course a s so over here once for example I select spon you will see a specific uh an update so it's almost 300K 280 of the

7:04usage of photon and of course now one what I want to share I have I have uh so here I can copy the link if I want and I can also so this is when I want to share with other users to update or other uh other things but I can also publish this specific dashboard and here I have when it comes to publ I have two options it's

7:26either uned and by embedding credentials which is all the viewers of the dashboards running queries so using will use your credentials and compute so of course this allow users to uh see the dashboard even if they don't have access to the underlying data or SQL warehouse and of course this just keep in mind this might expose the data you data to

7:48users that have not been granted direct access to it and the other option is when you don't want to ID credentials and here all the viewers of the dashboard run queries so using their own uh data and compute credentials and viewers of course need access to the to the workspace and of course they attach

8:11to the SQL warehouse and the associated data in order to view the dashboard and then when you've decided you can go and simply publish uh your specific dashboard and of course you can you can access it uh make sure to get the most of the dashboard of course just keep in mind that I'm not very fluent when it

8:35comes to building uh visualization I just wanted to show you how fast and quickly and E and easy to uh let's say to uh build dashboards and always keep in mind that this is the second time we the best take our house is a lake house and keep in mind that DB SQL is a serate ourhouse and this is very very important

8:58which means you have have fast scalable and reliable power compute and everything of course is governed with unity catalog and this is something very very important so this is again just the dashboard so I can remove this specific filter it will automatically update the uh the cost of this specific

9:22uh cost of the specific skew thank you for watching this session and see you soon
